On August 27th, 2012 at 8:00 PM, the General Assembly Chorus (NO connection to the state legislature!) will host an evening of harmonious singing and merriment at the Events at Newton Square, 230 Newton Rd., Raleigh, NC

There is no cost for this fun filled night!

All male singers, experienced or not, are welcome to sample the fun of barbrshop singing. Interested and qualified candidates will join our “Class of 2012”, which features a course of instruction designed to improve your singing. The “Class of 2012” will meet during part of our Monday rehearsals, “graduating” in mid September.

This multi-week course will include:

–          Introduction to the Barbershop quartet (& chorus) style of singing

–          Vocal basics, such as;

  • How to read music
  • Breathing, maintaining pitch
  • Proper vowel formation
  • Producing Expanded Sound
  • Advanced singing, adding artistry
  • Presentation, visual elements

–          Introduction to basic 4 part harmony arrangements designed to display the inter-relationship of the parts

–          “Graduate” by performing a song in an ensemble format

In addition, students will spend time with the General Assembly Chorus as they rehearse their repertoire, and prepare for scheduled performances.
